Dear colleagues,
Please consider submitting a proposal for the upcoming Symposium on Language Pedagogy in Higher Education (SOLPHE), which will take place on October 2 & 3, 2020, at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. This symposium was created to serve as a professional development forum tailored to the needs of post-secondary language educators, with the broader goals of enhancing the quality of language programs and providing opportunities for inter-institutional collaboration.

The symposium will also feature a special workshop for language program directors and coordinators on “Conflict Resolution: A Guide to Crucial Conversations,” as well as round-table discussion sessions on topics such as TA training, experiential learning, online courses, etc.

CALL FOR PAPERS
We welcome submissions from language program directors, graduate students, and faculty of all ranks and languages, for 20-minute presentations. Proposals may be either practice-oriented or research-oriented, as long as they have practical implications that may be relevant to different language programs in post-secondary settings.
All proposals must fall under one of the following two strands:
STRAND 1: LANGUAGE TEACHING AND LEARNING
Topics that fit this strand include but are not limited to the following:
Research-based pedagogical approaches
Technology integration
Experiential learning
Assessment of instructional outcomes
Diversity and inclusive teaching
Intercultural competence
Students’ and instructors’ perceptions
STRAND 2: LANGUAGE PROGRAM DIRECTION
Topics that fit this strand include but are not limited to the following:
Training and supervision of teaching assistants
Language teaching methods courses
Evaluation and training of language program directors
Program articulation
Curriculum development and revision
Mission, vision, and objectives of basic language programs
Recruitment and retention
Selection and development of instructional materials
Course placement practices
Language resource centers
