Educational Technology Specialist position at Cornell University Language Resource Center


The Language Resource Center (LRC) at Cornell University is seeking an Educational Technology Specialist with a strong background in second language acquisition theory and practice to support the purposeful application of innovative and pedagogically appropriate technological approaches to language and intercultural teaching and learning. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assess language faculty pedagogical needs and expand current offerings, specifically with respect to digital technologies, effective instructional strategies, and second language acquisition (SLA) applications
  • Provide consultations and training for faculty related to digital technologies and SLA
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy
  • Collaborate with student interns on online advocacy campaign to raise awareness about the importance of language and intercultural learning
  • Support a core suite of tools in collaboration with the LRC Media Development Manager, including sound editing, video editing, audio recording technologies, video game technology, dubbing and subtitling, presentation tools, etc.
  • Monitor developments in the field of L2 pedagogy, instructional design, and technology in order to remain current on effective strategies and best practices in these fields
  • Other duties as requested by the LRC Director


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of educational theories and interest in applying technical expertise to solve educational challenges
  • Ability to work closely with diverse faculty members in a research university
  • Ability to identify and recommend appropriate instructional technologies
  • Must have sound judgment and sophisticated problem-solving, facilitation, and analytical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills
  • Must be able to work effectively in a dynamic, deadline-driven, complex, team-based environment with multiple competing priorities
  • Well-developed multi-tasking ability, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and exercise independent judgement
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and to learn new skills
  • Strong collaboration skills, including listening skills and a commitment to inclusive practice

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree and language teaching experience preferred
  • Programming and/or visual media skills (e.g., DSLR, Lightroom, Photoshop) desired
