Duties & Responsibilities

Independently, acquire and maintain in-depth knowledge of language-focused software and web-based programs (drill applications, learning management systems, oral practice applications, writing aids, web-based applications and services, etc.) to support the
teaching and learning of languages other than English. Recommend solutions and assist in the evaluation of learning outcomes in collaboration with the Director and faculty.

The employee will be an IT liaison and will work with Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) to discuss IT functionality and appropriateness for use with the Center’s resources. Coordinate with HUIT on maintenance and repair of the Center’s computers.

In collaboration with the Director, deliver and assess in-service training workshops on Language Center resources for language faculty members and teaching fellows.

Manage data pertaining to courses, student users, faculty, and facility usage; prepare and work with the Director to prepare and circulate annual survey of client satisfaction with the Language Center (LC).

Perform immediate, first-level troubleshooting of technology problems within the Center and of its resources to resolve them or determine a path to resolution.

Liaise with Media & Technology Services on the use and care of multimedia equipment. Prepare media technology in the Center’s rooms for use by courses with programs such as teletandem. Serve as Language Center Liaison with HUIT, advise on needs, collaborate
on projects, and request services for the LC. Advise the Center’s Director on technology and options such as cloud-based resources and software-as-service (SAS) applications for general services and when working with faculty on individual course activities.

Coordinate student employee team of approximately 25 including supervision, assignment, and schedule during the academic year and Summer School.

Collaborate with the Director and the Office on Undergraduate Education, schedule and oversee language verification exams.

Work with the Faculty of Arts & Sciences Registrar’s Office in scheduling LC rooms for course meetings.
Basic Qualifications
-
At least three years’ experience managing a university language center or at least three years as a language instructor using the resources of a language center;

Fluency in a second language.
Additional Qualifications
-
BA/BS, with a graduate degree preferred, in a language or a field related to language learning or pedagogy.

Minimum of three years of academic/administrative experience in a university.

Three years’ experience as either a student or instructor using a university language center.
